Scund-directing appliances.-A compound horn constructed to distribute sound laterally and concentrate it vedically, utilizing diffraction phenomena, consists of several units, Figs. 1 and 2, mounted in a vertical row so as to give a long narrow emission orifice. The width of the orifice must not materially exceed the wave length of the highest frequency it is desired to emit. The units may be fed from individual diaphragms actuated synchronously by a common electrical circuit, or a single diaphragm may feed the units through branch pipes, all the branch pipes being of the same length. Specifications 317,339 and 325,784 are referred to.
