Lifting - cords and equivalents; shedding- motions; dobbies.-In order to avoid damage to the warp threads due to their friction on crossing, relative movement between a pair of ascending or descending healds, or between one or more healds and the rest of a group of healds is effected by suspending the healds from members passing around pairs of eccentric pulleys disposed symmetrically on the same spindle. In a calico loom, the odd - numbered warp threads 5, Fig. 1, are controlled by a pair of healds 1, 2 connected to a treadle 7 and suspended by members 9, 11 passing over eccentric pulleys 10, 12, the evennumbered warp threads being controlled in a similar manner. When the ascending motion of the healds 1, 2 begins, they are level, while at the middle of their path they occupy the positions shown in Fig. 5, and again become level when in their highest position. When the healds are controlled by a dobby, one heald 21, Fig. 2, at least of each group is connected to members passing around eccentric pulleys 22, other eccentric pulleys 23 on the same fixed shafts being connected to the levers 20 of the dobby,' while the other healds 19 of the group are connected directly to the levers.
