Abstract
325,811. Davies, L. G. Nov. 26, 1928. Detachable stoppers secured by clamping- devices.-The skirt 1, Fig. 2, of a capsulelike closure for jars, bottles, &c., is preformed with a bulge or bend 2, and is preferably slit, us shown, to form tongues 3. The closure is provided with a packing washer 6, and is secured in position by turning the lower edge of the rim or the ends of the tongues 3 under the rim 5 in the neck of the vessel 4. The closure is released by flattening out the bulge 2, by suitable, pressure, as by rolling it on a flat surface, so freeing it from engagement with the rim 5 and permitting its removal. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the skirt of the closure is made plain, but an angular groove 7 is formed in the neck of the vessel. In this case, the closure is released by pressure on a suitable edge, which presses the material of the skirt inwards into the grooves 7. After removal, the closure may be re-used as a lid or cover.
