Movable-abutment type.-A gas meter or other fluid handling apparatus comprises a casing having inlet and outlet openings, intermeshing fluid displacement members in said casing, parallel shafts fixed to the fluid displacement members and extending through the end walls of the casing, a compartment enclosing timing gears in the ends of the shafts and a collecting and retaining chamber for lubricant and impurities adjacent the timing gear compartment. An embodiment of the invention is described in the abridgment of Specification 314,328.
