Abstract

325,592. Prisner, S., and Wender, E-- Nov. 23, 1928. Vacuum tubes.-A discharge lamp comprises an envelope of large superficial area and shallow depth with an electrode at each end, collapse of the walls of the lamp under external atmosphericpressure being prevented by ribs on one wall resting upon the opposite wall. The lamp shown is made by welding together at the edges two flat glass plates 1, 2, the inner face of the sheet 1 being corrugated to provide a number of discharge passages extending through the lamp. These passages are filled with gas, and electrodes 3 are arranged across their ends. A number of corrugated glass plates may be superposed as shown in Fig. 5 to provide a number of discharge spaces S<1>, S<2>, S<3> between them, which may befilled with different gases to give differently coloured lights. The several spaces may be separately illuminated to provide a changing- colour sign, a stencil or painted device being- placed on the front of the lamp. The lamp mayalso be used in a " daylight sign."
