Abstract

325,063. Legg, A. S. Jan. 1, 1929. Moving-chamber apparatus.-In apparatus in which material from a hopper fills a reciprocating measuring chamber and is subsequently discharged therefrom, the measuring chamber is at the moment of discharge traversed by a brush or plunger 1. The shaft 7 of a tipper in a watersoftening plant drives a shaft 11 having a cam 12 which, at the required instant, bears on the lever 14 and lifts the brush 1 from the chamber 5. The lever 14 is kept withdrawn by a spring- catch 17 until this is tripped by a finger 13 on the shaft 11. The connection between the lever 14 and the brush-stem 2 is either of the ball-andsocket type or slotted to provide lost motion. By helically-grooving either the stem 2 or its bearing and having associated pins in the companion member, angular movement may be imparted to the brush. The arrangement may be duplicated for use with two measuring chambers. In a modification a cranked-arm replaces the cam 12 and the catch is weight instead of spring-controlled.
