Abstract
215,577. Legg, A. S., and Prime, A. May 14, 1923. Moving-chamber apparatus.-Relates to apparatus of the kind in which a door is provided having a slot therethrough forming the measuring pocket, the door sliding within a box and being operated by an adjoining water-tipping vessel; and consists in mounting the door on a pair of coaxial guide rods, in providing a partition slidable within said pocket adjusted by a screw mounted concentrically within one of the guide rods. and in combining the adjustable door with a series of cone pieces adapted to fit into the delivery opening of the powder container. The powder is contained in a canister 1 of conical form, and is closed at the bottom by a sliding door 2 in which is an opening 3 forming the measuring pocket. The door slides in a box 4 formed in the base 5 and is guided by a pair of rods 6, 7 working in bearings in the base b. The pocket 3 is provided with a partition 10 adjustable by means of a screwed rod 11 located within the rod 6 for varying the capacity of the measure. Removable cone pieces 15 are provided in order to vary the opening in the bottom of the canister The door 2 together with a stirrer 16 within the canister is operated from the shaft 19 of a water tipping vessel, the door 2 by means of a crank 20 and linkage 21, 22, 24, 25, and the stirrer by means of the crank 27, linkage 28, 29, pawl and ratchet mechanism 13, 18 and bevel gear 17. Lost motion in the crank and linkage mechanism 27, 28 is provided by a pin and slot 31 in order that the water-tipping mechanism may acquire a considerable start before the stirrer is actuated. This may be provided by making the stroke of the pawl 30 long enough to pass nearly over two teeth. Lost motion may also be provided for in the linkage operating the door. In a modified construction, the door is operated by a cam driven from the shaft 19 through a linkage and is returned by a spring. In a form for use with a double tipping vessel, the sliding door is provided with two pockets adapted to register alternately with the outlet from the powder reservoir and with delivery outlets.
