Abstract

324,868. Stephens, A. J., (Excelsiorwerk Metallwarenfabrik Akt.-Ges.). April 23, 1929. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Casings and frames; driving-arrangements. - In a construction to give a motor of small dimensions, for example a gramophone motor, the body which carries the bearings for the armature shaft is secured to the field magnets at one end only and has extensions passing between the pole shoes to the bearing, at the other end of the magnets. The bearing body is also made as a composite solid of revolution to ensure concentricity of the armature in the pole bore after its withdrawal and reassembly. Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively plan and crosssectional views on the line A, A of a machine in which the bearing body d is shown separately in longitudinal section in Fig. 5. The body d is cylindrical and is secured to the magnets a by bolts v and a flange c at one end, at which end is one of the bearings f in the form of a circular plate held in the mouth of the body d by screws. The second bearing e is formed integrally at the other end of the body, the two end portions of which are united by connecting-bars o passing between the pole shoes. A conical extension piece k, secured on the member d by a clamping screw r or other means, terminates in a support l for a centre-point to take the end thrust of the armature shaft. This sleeve k is slotted at n so that the worm wheel or other transmission member can mesh with a corresponding member on the shaft. Slots p in the body d accommodate the brush-holders q. The driving worm t is cut in the shaft prior to hardening and grinding.
