Abstract

323,407. Rotinoff, A. G. Oct. 30, 1928. Divided on 309,101. Pneumatic conveyers and elevators.- Material is. excavated, dredged or conveyed by bringing against the material the open end of a chamber which leads to a discharge pipe, mechanically forcing a charge of such material into the chamber and isolating it from the bulk, and delivering compressed-air jets into the charge to disintegrate the latter and blow it through the discharge pipe. The compressed air may act intermittently and may be assisted by water jets. The device may be employed for unloading vessels. In Fig. 1, the mouth b of a chamber a is forced into the soil and part of the latter is caught and isolated by a bladed member d rotating on a hollow spindle i through which air is supplied to a row of apertures j ; rows of apertures h in the bladed member successively align with the apertures to admit air to disintegrate the isolated material and carry it through the discharge pipe m which may have a booster jet n. In Figs. 3 and 4, a grab has jaws o, p carried by links q and rising and falling pivots r operated by a rope s to isolate material within a tapered head t from which the material is removed to the discharge pipe m by disintegrating air jets u and booster jets n.
