Abstract
321,723. Auer, L. May 8, 1928. Divided on 321,691. Fatty oils; soaps, processes for making.-Fatty oils are heated at elevated pressure, in the absence of water, with alkali metals, their oxides or hydroxides, with or without an alkaline earth peroxide, to yield saponaceous compounds to be used as such or in the form of an aqueous emulsion in the manufacture of soap, or after vulcanization as a substitute for rubber. The reaction mass may be treated with radiations, e.g. X-rays, or with gases, e.g. nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and may be vulcanized by treating with sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulphide alternately, using benzoquinone as accelerator or by a separate vulcanization process. The dissolution of the alkali metals or compounds may be assisted by addition of metal-free organic compounds such as phenols, arylamines, hydrocarbons, ketones, formaldehyde, benzidine, or quinoline.
