Abstract

321,693. Stamberger, P., and Auer, L. May 10, 1928. Emulsions, making.-A process for the vulcanization of unsaturated organic compounds containing acids of high molecular weight such as fatty oils, for example linseed, or rape oil, resins, naphthenic acids or derivatives of these, consists in heating and mixing them, or their solutions in benzene, or petroleum ether with sulphur, with or without accelerators such as mercaptobenzthiazole, or activators such as zinc oxide and then emulsifying the resulting sulphur bearing product, with an aqueous medium, which may consist of an oil emulsion in water, or an aqueous glycerol or starch solution, to which may be added dispersing agents such as soaps, sulphonated oils, sulphonated alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons or their salts, albumen, saponin, or phenols and then heating the emulsion under pressure. The emulsification may be carried out by simple agitation or by allowing jets of the dispersed phase and dispersion medium to impinge. Specifications 271,177; 287,943, 289,414, [both in Class 91,. Oils &c.], 289,415, 318,562; 321,689, 321,690, 321,691, [all in Class 91, Oils &c.], and 321,692 are referred to.
