Abstract

321,328. Lanchester, F. W. Nov. 9, 1928. Dynamometers. - Comprises a flywheel of variable moment of inertia, a chronograph or equivalent, and a fixed frame adapted to receive an engine or machine in alignment with the flywheel. The bed A carries bearers B, D integral with a drum C. Both bearers are provided with ball or other bearings to carry a shaft E on which is keyed a flywheel F provided with a flange G. The engine H to be tested is secured to the bed and coupled to the shaft E by a coupling K. Rings L are provided which may be slid on to the flywheel drum F and bolted to the flange G or when not required may be slid on to the stationary drum C. A drum M carries a sheet of paper on which the trace of a vibrating tuning fork is recorded. The fork may be traversed longitudinally of the drum M by a screw driven from the shaft E. The shaft E may operate an electric contact breaker to record on a chronograph cylinder.
