Crank shafts; securing balance weights on shafts. - Detachable balance weights for the crankshafts of motorvehicles &c. comprise a mass 2 carried on an arm or web 1 integral or otherwise rigid with a flanged split boss 3, 4, which is clamped by bolts 5 over the shaft 7. As shown, the weight is secured to an inclined portion 7a of the shaft joining adjacent crankpins, the boss half 3 having a keyway to engage a key 9 and the boss half 4 a stud 11 engaging a hole in the shaft to correct slackness in the key. The plane of the parts 1, 2 is appropriately inclined to the axis of the boss 3, 4.
