320,468. Leggott, R. B. Aug. 28, 1928. Lock mechanism, master key; lever type; bolts, construction of.-In a multiple-key, lock a rocking catch R engages in indents B<3> in the main tail piece B<1> and in an extra tail-piece A and prevents movement of the main tail piece B<1> until disengaged by the first of two keys. The indents B<3> engage one tooth R<1> of the catch in the locked position and the other tooth R<2> in the unlocked position. The catch R is lifted by one of the key-operated tumblers L and the same movement of the key shoots the extra tail piece A which thereafter prevents the catch R from re-engaging until the main tail-piece is shot by a second key and the indents in the two tail pieces are side-by-side again. Fig. 9 shows the device employed with latch locks in which the main tail piece is separate from the bolt head. The key used for lifting the catch R and that used for moving the main tail piece cannot be altered by filing to perform the operation of each other and still perform their own functions.
