Abstract

320,346. Stirling, C., and United Steel Cos., Ltd. July 9, 1928. Laminated springs.-Vehicle springs are provided with means which enable the parts of the spring both in front of and behind the axle to resist driving and braking torque, such means consisting of an anchor plate wrapped around the spring eye at one end and positively attached to the spring at two points under reverse load. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a plate 10 is wrapped around the eyes 9 at each end and forms or is connected to the lowermost spring leaf which is anchored to the centre of the spring by the usual bolt 12. When the spring is subjected to torque, one half is bent reversely and its curvature increased. Such increase of curvature is however limited by the plate 10 which is then put into tension. The plate 10 may be connected to an intermediate leaf or may extend over half or less than half the length of the spring. The central bolt 12 may be dispensed with and the leaves prevented from moving by projections on one leaf entering corresponding depressions on the adjacent leaf.
