Abstract

320,267. Barrett, H. G. Nov. 19, 1928. Handles.-The grip of a golfclub shaft comprises a sleeve of comparatively hard, inherently resilient material arranged for torsional distortion, its resilience returning it to normal position after distortion. A sleeve 13 of pyroxylin or other material is secured at its inner end to a collar 11 surrounding a tubular metallic shaft 10, the material of the sleeve being pressed into recesses 12 in the collar. The outer end of the sleeve is secured to a cap 16 that covers the end of the shaft and has a bearing member 19 freely mounted on the outer surface of the shaft. The sleeve is maintained out of contact with the surface of the shaft by collars 21 of felt or other comparatively soft material and a filling 22 also of soft material. The contour of the sleeve conforms to that of the shaft.
