Abstract

319,555. Mathis, A. Dec. 31, 1928. Fixed-abutment type; packing drums, vanes, abutments, and the like.-In a rotary pump or engine in which radially sliding vanes 33 are projected from the rotor 19 by springs 41 and withdrawn thereinto by cams 43 on the casing acting on rollers 40 on the vanes, a portion 18 of the cylindrical periphery of the casing 11 is flattened to abut against the rotor. The abutment 22 may be curved to fit the rotor and at the outlet side formed with a diagonal scraper edge 21. The vanes, Fig. 10, are formed with ribs 35 and with slots to receive packing; they are curved to the casing periphery at their tips 36. The cam surfaces may be formed on members 44 separate from the casing end walls 45 but secured thereto and containing grooves 26 to receive packing rings or flanges on the rotor, Fig. 6.
