Abstract

319,308. British Celanese, Ltd., Mosley, D. H., Olpin, H. C., and Ellis, G. H. June 18, 1928. Divided on 319,390. Azo dyes are made by coupling diazotized 2 : 4-dinitro-6-alkoxy- or alkyl-anilines or derivatives thereof with unsulphonated (including unsulphated) coupling components especially anaphthylamine and its derivatives. They are suitable for cellulose esters, are readily dischargeable and include violet to blue dyestuffs. In examples (1) diazotized 3 : 5-dinitro-o-anisidine is diazotized and coupled with gamma-chlor-#-oxypropyl-1-naphthylamine (from alpha-naphthylamine and epichlorhydrin) or alpha-naphthylamine; (2) cellulose acetate dyed violet with the latter dyestuff .is discharge printed red with a paste containing Durindone Scarlet R followed by oxidation; (3) 3 : 5-dinitro-o-toluidine is diazotized and coupled 'with 4-nitro-1: 3-phenylenediamine. The dyestuffs 3: 5-dinitro-o-anisidine # #-naphthol, 3 : 5-dinitro-o-toluidine # #-naphthylamine and 3: 5-dinitro-2-amino-1: 4-xylene # dimethylaniline are excluded.
