Abstract
319,191. Baillot, E. Sept. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Hand and foot actuation; transmitting-mechanism.-A lever transmission system, more particularly for operating brakes, comprises levers A, B connected through the intermediary of a pivoted radius rod N so arranged that the first two levers move with continuously-varying relative angular velocities and consequent variation of mechanical advantage. The intermediate member N pivoted at P is connected by a link M to the lever A pivoted at O and by a link V to the lever B pivoted at Q, the operative movements being as indicated by arrows. A may be a brake pedal adapted to be returned by a spring. In the constructional embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the pedal lever A, fulcrumed on a fixed pivot O, is formed with an arm A' connected by a link M to a radius rod N pivoted at P to a fixed bracket O<1>, the connection being continued through a second link V to a double-armed lever B', B also pivoted on the fixed pin O and connected at its end B<2> to the brake rods &c. The extent of movement of the lever A and the dispositions of the parts are so arranged that at first the lever B precedes the lever A<1> but that their complete strokes are substantially equal.
