Coal-cutting machines.-A coal-cutting machine has raising or tilting means comprising wheels 1 supported separately in yokes 5 each provided with a screw 8 engaging a worm wheel 9, the worm wheels on each side of the machine being driven bv a common worm shaft 11. Pairs of wheels may be encircled by endless bands 4, and their yokes 5 may be connected by bars 6 carrying tensioning rollers 7 for the bands. Each worm shaft 11 may be driven from the driving or haulage mechanism of the machine through a shaft 14, clutch 13. and bevel gears 15, 16; alternatively, the clutch may be connected to a sprocket 18 which, through a chain 19, drivesone of the wheels 1. The wheel assemblies may be housed within the machine.
