Abstract
317,469. Junkers, H. Aug. 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Securing flywheels, pinions, pulleys, bearing-races, &c. on shafts.-A split, slotted, or continuous compressible cone 2, preferably of relatively soft material, engages the tapered bore of a wheel &c. 3, which is thrust axially by a nut 5 or tapered cotter, the angle of the cone being such that there remains a residual axial force which presses the cone against a shoulder 7 or second nut on the shaft 1, or against a spacing-sleeve transmitting the thrust to a second wheel and cone arrangement, Fig. 8 (not shown), or to a ball-bearing race abutting against the shoulder 7, Fig. 7 (not shown). The bore of the wheel &c. may ,as shown, be only partly tapered, a safety key 4 being provided at the cylindrical end, but the taper may extend over the whole bore, the key 4 then passing also through the cone 2, Fig. 1 (not shown). Washers of varying number or thickness may be interposed between the parts 2, 7 to adjust the axial position of the wheel &c.
