Filaments. - To reduce the working temperature at weak or faulty places of greater resistance in spiral filaments, the pitch of the spiral is increased at these places. This may be effected by exposing the filament to a mechanical stress and momentarily incandescing it. The initial pitch of the spiral may be smaller than usual to compensate for the stretching.
