Resistance furnaces. - An electrically heated apparatus for singeing threads is provided with a metal band 6 connected to the terminals and maintained at a constant distance from the thread to be singed by a gutter 5, of quartz or the like, which cannot be deformed by heat. The apparatus comprises a brass shell 1 fitted with a. layer of asbestos 2, a heat accumulating mass 3 and an electrically heated metal band 6 disposed between gutters 4, 5 of quartz or the like.
