Fringes.-A machine for manufacturing mop fringes and the like in a continuous length by a continuous process comprises two supporting guides 1, Fig. 1, on which yarn is wound by a winding disc 2 which carries yarn from a roll 6 through a central eye and a bracket 7 on the disc 2. As the yarn is coiled round the guides 1, it is conveyed by toothed chains 3. 'Strips 8 of fabric drawn from spools are guided and pressed by rollers 11 on to the coiled yarn and' are secured by a multiple-needle sewing-machine 12, as in Fig. 2. The edges of the yarn are then cut by rotary discs 13 so that the rolled yarn becomes a fringe In a modified form of machine Fig. 2, the lower strip 8 is guided to the under surface of the yarn by a shoe 14 and is kept in contact by a table 15. Pins or prongs 16 projecting upwardly and downwardly on the conveyer guides 1 beyond the cutting discs comb the fringes into position prior to the passage through drawing rolls 17. In the modified form of winding device shown in Figs. 2, 9 the yarn passes through a stationary eye 19 spaced from, but co-axial with, the rotary disc 2<1> and thence through a tube 20 in the disc. If desired, the yarn may pass over a spreading roller 21 before passing to the conveyer guides. The material is cut off in lengths and folded, as in Fig. 8.
