Abstract

316,099. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. July 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Indigoid dyestuffs are obtained by condensing a reactive aderivative of isatin with an N- alkyl-1 : 2-oxybenzocarbazol. In an example, N- methyl-1 : 2-(1<1>-oxybenzo) carbazol is condensed with isatin-a-anilide in the presence of acetic anhydride. The dyestuff dyes wool and cotton, from a vat, a yellow tint, which turns deep black when exposed to air. Their great aflinity for the fibre renders the dyestuffs suitable for printing. Specification 22287/13 is referred to. N-methyl-1 : 2-(1<1>-oxybenzo) carbazol is prepared by condensing unsym-methylphenylhydrazine with 1: 5-dihydroxynaphthalene. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the condensation of isatin a derivatives with any oxybenzocarbazol N substituted derivative. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
