Abstract

315,993. Nasmith, F., (Universal Winding Co.). July 14, 1928. Winding-machines.-In a yarn-winding machine the conical or other tube 21, Figs. 1 and 3, on which the package is wound is secured on the spindle 10 by radially-movable gripping-pins 17, the starting handle 28, Fig. 4, for the winding- spindle serving also to control the movement of the wedging sleeve 25, 26 engaging the inner ends of the pins 17. The pins are moved outwardly by the sleeve 25, 26 to engage the tube 21 against a circumferential spring 22 seated in shoulders 19 and retract under the action of the spring 22 when the sleeve 25, 26 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 1. The spring 22 also serves to prevent the pins 17 from turning. The handle 28 is secured to a rockable bar 29 carrying arms 30 controlling a combined clutch-member and belt pulley 31.
