Abstract

315,506. Johnson, J. Y., (1. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 2, 1928. Addition to 291,546. Dinaphthazine derivatives; azine dyes.-8 : 8<1>- Dioxy-1 : 2 : 1<1> ; 2'-dinaphthazines substituted by at least one sulpho or nitro group are employed as parent materials in the manufacture of vat dyes by the process of the parent Specification. In examples, (1) the sulphonic acid obtained by treating the dinaphthazine with concentrated sulphuric acid at 90‹ C. is chlorinated in the presence of acetic anhydride and glacial acetic acid; the product is similar in its dyeing properties to the dyestuff obtained in example 3 of the parent Specification; (2) dinitro-8 : 8'-dioxy- 1 : 2 : 1<1> : 2'-dinaphthazine, made by treating the dinaphthazine with potassium nitrate in concentrated sulphuric acid, is dissolved in trichlorbenzene and chlorinated in the presence of iodine; the product dyes cotton in red shades.
