Abstract

315,452. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Croft, E. H. April 12, 1928. Switching-systems.-A switching system, particularly for use on train sections, comprises a number of switches remotely disposed from each other, each switch being operated from an adjacent control point so as to make available a supply of control current from a main supply for energizing the remaining switches. As shown, motor generator sets 24, 25 are located on each train section, the carriages of which are connected by jumpers 17 - - 21, controllers 37 - - 40 and switches 23 being respectively in circuit at each power unit section. On closure by hand of the first switch 23, current is supplied to the motor 24, the generator energizing the control also the remaining switch coils 51, 52. The switches are provided with main coils 51 and auxiliary coils 52, the latter energizing the latches 68 against gravity and permitting the arm 59 to fall and open the switch contacts 54, 55 as soon as the main coil 51 is de-energized. The latches are returned by gravity to their initial position for holding the arms 59 when any of the switches are normally closed.
