Keyboards.-A keyboard having the keys so arranged that the frequency of use increases from the sides to the middle in accordance with the strength of the fingers comprises, as shown in the figure, the following arrangements : The vowelkeys E, A and U, 0, I are arranged in the middle row of character-keys and at opposite sides of the keyboard, and are preferably surrounded by the consonant-keys that are frequently used therewith. The key R is surrounded or adjacent to the keys that are frequently used therewith, and the key H is placed near the centre of the keyboard. The keys for figures and most of the symbols are in the top row. For instructional purposes, the keys of a keyboard may bear both the above-described and the standard arrangements.
