Gas meters. - The edge of a gas meter diaphragm a is clamped between flanges b, c having diverging gripping faces so that no pressure is imposed upon the portion of the diaphragm adjacent to that at which bending or flexure occurs and retention of the lubricant or dressing in the diaphragm is ensured. The flanges may be fitted with wicks f, g impregnated with lubricants or dressing, or with leather or other protecting pads adjacent to the points where flexure occurs. Fig. 6 shows a diaphragm a secured by a ring j in a clepression k in the casing, the radius of the ring being less than that of the depression so that the compression of the diaphragm diminishes from the point n. A protecting pad m is inserted between the diaphragm and the casing.
