Abstract

457,314. Tourniquets. ZWIRN, I., 61, Potsdamer Strasse, Berlin. June 8, 1936, No. 16004. [Class 81 (ii)] A tourniquet comprises an elastic band 12 having capped ends 12a each drawn through a guide in a cast or other metal clip 1 and secured by detent means. The band 12 is formed of one or more coiled steel or bronze wire springs; disposed side by side or one over the other in separate or common sheaths. The clip 1 comprises side pieces and a curved base piece 1a having riveted or screwed thereto a wedge piece 2. The detents comprise levers 3, 4, pivoted at 5, 6, and connected by springs 7 one on each side of the clip. The faces of the levers engaging the band are notched as at 3a, 4a and their free ends formed with finger pieces 3b, 4b. Rollers 8, 9 reduce friction on the band and prevent pinching of the flesh. Eccentric clamp detents may be employed.
