[Also in Group XXVIII] The ends of a flexible band a, e.g. of metal, are pivoted on studs b<SP>2</SP> fixed to a bridge-piece b provided with a centrally disposed adjusting screw b<SP>1</SP> which contacts one side of the pipe p to draw the band on to the opposite side of the pipe. As shown in Fig. 1, a pad d is pivoted on the inner end of the screw, and rubber pads c, c<SP>1</SP> are located over the fracture in the pipe and between the latter and the band. The ends of the band are tapered. In a modification, the band a, Fig. 3, is of rubber and has metal reinforcing plates e, e<SP>1</SP> provided with a number of holes for engaging the ends of the band on the studs b<SP>2</SP>.
