Abstract
313,978. Bailey, F., and Jackson, F. H. Dec. 21, 1927. Stop-gear.-In means for stopping and reversing a motor-driven shaft described as applied to a water strainer of the rotative and reversible type which upon becoming choked is reversed until the obstruction is again met when reversal again takes place, a flywheel w is frictionally mounted between collars upon a threaded sleeve e mouned upon a screwed shaft driven by an electric motor. The inertia of the flywheel carries the sleeve along the shaft when the motor is overloaded and effects through a lever r and switch mechanism controlled thereby the stoppage or reversal. The shaft t has flanges h and spring-pressed, axially-slidable buffer collars l at its ends. Ratchet projections l<1> on the collars engage like projections on the sleeve and arrest its travel upon the shaft. The lever r through gearing n, n<1> and lever r' actuate switch arms a, a<1> which are connected by a tension spring a<2> to return them to their off position. The lever r<1> carries a spring s which engages pivoted detents k on the arms a, a<1>. Magnets m, m<1> retain the arms in position. The arm r' is eccentrically arranged with respect to the arms a, a<1> so that the spring s can slip past the detents and avoid straining the parts. The switch arm returns to its central position upon an overload coil o coming into action.
