Abstract
313,440. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. June 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Emulsions, making.-Pastes or solid masses which contain artificial rubber-like masses and which can be again disintegrated by water to a latex-like liquid are made by concentrating a latex-like emulsion or suspension of an artificial rubber-like mass in the presence of a protective colloid which does not flocculate from an aqueous solution on heating. In examples (1) isoprene is emulsified in a solution of sodium oleate and heated to 60‹, the resulting cream like mass is diluted with water, a filter candle of a very fine pore ceramic material is inserted and evacuated causing a paste to separate on the surface, (2) butadiene is emulsified with sodium oleate and magnesium oleate and heated, and the cream is diluted and centrifuged in a. Sharples super centrifuge, (3) a latex obtained by polymerizing 2, 3-dimethylbutadiene-(1, 3) in emulsion with sodium oleate is concentrated on a water bath. The pastes obtained in each case can be converted to a latex even after prolonged storage.
