Abstract

313,334. Smith, Ltd., J. S., and Smith, R. July 6, 1928. Reels.-In a reel 1, Fig. 1, for fire hose &c. 1<a> the reel is rotatably mounted in a U-shaped support 5 and this support is provided with a hollow boss 6 which is adapted to rotate within a sleeve 7 carried by a wall bracket and is connected to the water supply cock 24 by a flexible pipe 15. Alternatively, the support 5 comprises a sleeve rotatable around a hollow boss carried by the wall bracket. The inner end of the hose is detachably connected by a union 11 to a pipe which extends through a stuffing-box 12 associated with one of the reel bearings 4 and communicates with the boss 6 by a, pipe 14 and a duct formed integral with the base part of the support 5. A spring-pressed pin may be provided in the sleeve 7 adapted to engage one of a series of notches on the boss 6 for retaining the support, 5 in one definite position, while the wall bracket is preferably formed of two parts 8, 9 hinged together on a pivot 16 and provided with locking means comprising a catch 17 on the part 9 and notches on the part 8. In a modification, Fig. 3, the boss 6 is disposed within a sleeve 21 supported from a wall-bracket. 20 by links' 19. The links 19 are provided with springs 22 tending normally to draw them upwardly towards the wall and a locking catch 23 to retain the reel support in its working position.
