Abstract

313,169. Lambrecth, J. J. June 9,1928, [Convention date]. Processes; fibres, treating.-Vegetable wool is obtained and also a fibre free from any tendency to putrefy, by a process comprising mechanical treatment for rendering the fibres flexible and separating the small films and particles of gum adhering to the fibres, then treatment in a hot solution containing 3 grams oleic acid, 2 grams mineral oil, 1 gram of 36‹ Be. soda lye, and 1 gram sodium carbonate per litre of water, the liquid being circulated for 1¢ to 4 hours. The fibres thus lubricated are immersed for 15 minutes to 3 hours in rapidly circulating cold caustic soda of 10‹-24‹ Be., and, after washing, are neutralized in a rapidly circulating acid bath. Then follows bleaching with sodium hypochlorite or the like, washing, and, finally, treatment for ¢-2 hours with a softening solution containing neutral soap and sodium mono-sulphide, wringing and drying. Specification 294,101, [Class 140, Waterproof &c., fabrics], is referred to.
