Abstract

313,043. Ritter, R. M. June 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Proofing against vermin.-Filbrous materials are made proof against moth by treatment with preparations containing alkyl derivatives of a naphthalene mono- or poly-sulphonate or sulphonic acid. Salts of chromium, aluminium, zinc, titanium &c. may be added, and the materials may be used in aqueous solution or in dry-cleaning solvents such as hydrocarbons, benzene, naphtha, alcohol acetone &c. The preparation may be applied during dyeing or other processes. Examples are : 10 lbs. of butylnaphthalene sulphonic acid and 4 lbs. of aluminium sulphate dissolved in 100 gallons of water, the material being treated for 15 minutes at 120‹ F. 10 1bs. of neutralized amyl naphthalene sulphonic acid dissolved in 100 gallons of petroleum naphtha may be used, and the material treated for 10 minutes. 8 lbs. of neutralized propyl naphthalene sulphonic acid and 2 1bs. of benzine soap dissolved in 100 gallons of benzene; and 7 parts of neutralized amyl naphthalene sulphonic acid and 3 parts of oleic acid in 1¢ per cent benzene solution are also specified. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that other insect-repelling substances such as sodium fluoride or silicofluoride may be added to the composition, and gives examples including these substances. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
