Screw propellers. - The driving surface of a screw propeller blade is spherical and located with respect to the boss that if the plane of the great circle b<1> containing the chord b of the segment at the root is taken as a datum then the radial axis is directed away from the centre o of the sphere. If the blade is cut by planes c<1>, d<1> parallel to the plane of the great circle then the chords c, d, of the blade segments form angles with the chord b which increase from root to tip.
