Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-In a roadvehicle signal comprising a housing 1 which is divided into two chambers 3, 3<1> containing electric lamp bulbs 11, 12, the bulb 11 being adapted continuously to illuminate a number plate 7 and a triangular or other rear light 6 whilst the bulb 12 is adapted to illuminate a " stop " or like warning signal only when the brakes are applied to the vehicle, the two chambers 3, 3<1> are formed by means of an obliquely arranged triangular wall 2 and two side walls reaching to the rear wall of the housing, and the bulb 12 is secured to the back of the wall 2. The rear wall of the housing is covered by a cut-out plate 5 which is backed by a red celluloid or like plate 4, or by means of a single coloured glass, celluloid or like plate provided with corresponding portions made transparent, whilst the curved bottom of the housing is provided with an aperture 8 covered by a transparent celluloid plate 9 held in position by a member 10. The inside of the housing and the front of the wall 2 may be made reflecting as by means of nickel or silver plating, or by means of mirrors, and a plate 13 is riveted to the housing 1 for the attachment of the number plate 7. As shown in Fig. 3, the brake rod 21 carries an adjustable clamp 22 which is .connected by a rod 20 to a rocker arm 15 protruding through an elongated slot in a switch box 14 arranged in any convenient position such as below the floor of the vehicle. The bulb 11 is continuously connected in circuit by means of leads 23, and when the brakes are applied the rocker arm 15 enters between a pair of spring contacts 16 insulated from the switch-box and the bulb 12 is brought into circuit by means of leads 18, 19.
