Compositions containing cellulose derivatives. -Plastic or celluloid-like masses, moulding powders, and other products having a basis of organic esters or ethers of cellulose are prepared with the use of alkyl ethers of acidylated aminophenols as solvents or plasticizers. Suitable aminophenol derivatives are acethyl-, propionyl-, or butyryl-anisidine or -phenetidine, propyloxy- or butyloxy-acetanilide, or alkoxy stearanilides. The aminophenol derivatives may be incorporated at any stage in the manufacture, and there may be included, as desired, fillers, dyes, pigments, &c. and other plasticizers such as triphenyl or tricresyl phosphate or alkyl or aryl sulphonamides or sulphonanilides. The examples describe the preparation of (1) a celluloid-like product from a mixture of cellulose acetate, ethyl or methyl alcohol, benzene; and acetyl-o-anisidine ; (2) a moulding powder from a mixture of ethyl cellulose, benzene, and acetyl phenetidine incorporated with a pigment while drying; (3) a product as in (1) but with butyl-o-anisidine or (4) butyl-o-anisidine and tricresyl phosphate or (5) acetyl phenetidine instead of acetyl-o-anisidine; (6) a product as in (1) but with cellulose propionate instead of cellulose acetate; (7) a product as in (2) but using acetyl-o-anisidine in conjunction with acetyl phenetidine. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) covers the use of cellulose esters in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
