Abstract

312,423. White, A. E., (Deltex Co.). March 13, 1928. Gases and vapours, treating with.-A fabric 12, passing over rollers 11, 10, is aged or reduced after vat-dyeing or discharge-printing, by treatment in an atmosphere of steam admitted under baffles 13 in a tank 1 by a pipe 7, the steam being prevented from becoming superheated by the chemical reducing reactions by the supplying of moisture by capillary means 21 to points in the immediate vicinitv of the fabric, the moisture in evaporating absorbing the excess heat. The capillary means 21 consist of sheets of felt, fabric or metallic gauze held in slots in the bottom of troughs 14, 14<1> supplied with water at 212‹ F. through float valves 18, 18<1>. Other nozzles 22, 22'and pipes 23 conduct away drippings from the sheets 21. The supply of steam and of moisture may be regulated by hand-valves. A fan-blower 5 carries away any steam escaping from the entry and exit orifices and! may be used to induce a reduced pressure in the tank, if desired. The tank 1 is covered with asbestos and is heated at the top by steam-pipes 25 in hollow heating-plates.
