Abstract

312,245. Elkington, H. D., (Kramer, G. A.). Jan. 17, 1928. Motor spirit has dispersed therein a solution or dispersion in a liquid not miscible with the fuel of a substance or substances reducing " knock." A dispersion or emulsifying agent or a stabilizer or both may be added. For example, aqueous solutions of potassium oxalate and potassium gallate are dispersed in benzine to form emulsion, containing respectively 1.8 and 1.0 grams of potassium per litre of fuel. Aqueous .solutions of potassium chromate and citrate emulsified respectively in benzine and a mixture of benzine and benzol by means of oleic acid and ammonia are also specified. Glycol or glycerine may replace the water. Specification 196,237 and the prior use of solutions of " antiknock " substances in liquids soluble in the fuel, are referred to.
