Abstract
312,142. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. May 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Shaft couplings.-Relates to steam power plant comprising a reciprocating engine and an exhaust turbine in which the turbine is connected to a common through shaft by reduction gearing and a flexible coupling. The coupling is so constructed that it both enables equalization of the varying torque of the reciprocating engine and the steady torque of the turbine to be effected for both rotary and power directions, and also makes provision for the axes of the coupled shafts to be slightly out of line. Figs. 2, 3 and 7 show three different arrangements of spring coupling; in each case the member f is connected to the large gear wheel of the turbine reduction gear, and the member g to the through shaft of the reciprocating engine. In Fig. 2, the ends of the arms h of the member f bear against one or other of the abutment plates i, l of the spring k. The various surfaces of contact are made spherical to allow the coupling to take up a slightly inclined position. In Fig. 3, the arms are replaced by screwed-in pins, and the spring k is arranged as shown. In Fig. 7 the springs v are arranged between co-operating plates on the members f, g as shown.
