Abstract

311,952. Speaker, G. R. May 30, 1928. Drive-screws. - In a device for securing asbestos and like sheets to walls &c., without piercing the face of the sheet, the conical head 1 of a screw is expanded to fit the undercut recess in the sheet 7, by forcing the wedge 5 along the slot 4 by means of the washer 8 and nut 9, the wedge resting on the face of the washer. The screw is firmly held at right angles to the sheet by the washer 8 bearing on the back surface of the sheet. The screw, which may have a sharpened point 3 is now driven into the wall, the tongues of a split disc 12 engaging the threads to prevent reversed motion, or the hole to receive the nail may be lined with a resilient sleeve. In a modification, the screw has an annular groove 21 which engages with a slot in the plate 18. This plate does not lie in a plane parallel to the sheet so that as the screw slides along the slot the sheet is drawn tightly against the wall.
