Circular-saw machines.-A metal-cutting circular saw a is mounted on a carriage d between two work tables b, c, one below and the other above the centre line of the saw spindle. The saw is rotated by a worm d<1> sliding on a motordriven shaft h which also actuates the traversing mechanism for the saw carriage between the two extreme positions a', a<2>. The carriage is given a slow movement whilst moving outwards from its central position in either direction, and a quicker return movement towards the centre, by means of change-speed gearing (not shown) actuated by trip lugs r on the carriage d. The work on either table can thus be adjusted whilst that on the other table is being cut. The clamp n on the lower table b faces outwards.
