Abstract

311,535. Parsons, R. H. April 24, 1928. Resistances, measuring. - Apparatus for indicating the variations in the coefficient of heat transmission in a surface condenser comprises thermometric elements arranged to be influenced by the inlet and outlet temperatures of the cooling water and the temperature of the incoming steam respectively, the elements co-operating to actuate a single indicating instrument the elements may comprise resistances Ro, R1, R2 connected in series with a battery a and in parallel to four fixed coils b - - e, of a galvanometer, the iron armature f of which is suspended at the centre of the coils and carries a pointer g moving across a scale h. Four fixed resistances R are connected as shown to increase the resistances of the coils b - - e, the coils b, c, being arranged at right angles to the coil d, e so that their fields are in opposition. Expansion thermometers may be used instead of the resistances Ro, R1, R2.
