Abstract
310,864. Kohorn, O. F. von, (trading as Kohorn & Co., O.), and Perl, A. Jan. 31, 1928. Ammoniacal-copper cellulose solutions, processes for making filaments from.-The water used as precipitant in the stretch-spinning process for the manufacture of artificial silk from ammoniacal-copper cellulose solutions is freed from ammonia and copper in known manner by heating and, after standing until the copper sludge has settled down, is filtered and used again after cooling without any further treatment. A small amount of caustic alkali may be added prior to the heating in order to liberate the small amount of ammonia which may be present in the form of salts. The ammonia driven off is driven into absorption towers and bound in known manner, for instance as sulphate. The water usually contains small quantities of other salts, e.g. sodium sulphate or carbonate, which cause disturbances in the spinning if they are present in concentration exceeding a certain limit, so that it is necessary to replace a small part of the used water by fresh water, which lias the added advantage of partly effecting the necessary cooling of the heated water but since only a part of the water which has been freed from copper and ammonia by heating, is replaced by fresh water, a pretreatment of the latter for the purpose of expelling dissolved gases is not necessary. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 300,572.
