Abstract
310,079. Aspden, R. L. Jan. 18, 1928. Simulating echo effect.-In electrical recording and reproducing apparatus of the kind in which stereophonic effects are produced by recording or reproducing identical sounds separated by a short time interval which may be varied as required, the time interval is produced by the introduction into one of the sound current circuits of a lag device comprising a rotating metal disc or a travelling metal band completing the circuit between adjustably spaced magnets forming parts of the circuit. Fig. 1 shows a recording device g actuated by identical sounds from microphones a, b one of which is connected through amplifier c directly with a coil e of the device and the other is connected through an amplifier d to excite a magnet l so as to magnetize a rotating metal disc i, which in its travel below another magnet m produces a current which is led to another coil f of the recording device. Residual magnetism on the disc is removed by a magnet n. In reproducing, a current from a gramophone pick-up or from a wireless receiver is passed through an amplifier and divided, one part passing direct to a loud speaker, and the other through a delay device similar to that shown at i, l, m, Fig. 1, which transmits a delayed current to a second loud speaker.
