Pencil holders.-In a pencil holder of the type having a screw - actuated lead holding socket 3 adapted to be arrested during the final stage of the movement of the mechanism to permit the end of the lead to be ejected, the base of the socket .is aperbured for the passage of the rod-like propeller 2 which is formed with a head or lateral projection 2<a> for withdrawing the socket during the retracting- movement of the mechanism. The socket preferably consists of a split metal tube having the rear end turned in to form a flange 3a, and the head 2<a> is normally held against the flange 3<a> by a spring 5 bearing at its other end against a washer 5<a> on the propeller. The rear end of the propeller is bent to pass into engagement with a longitudinal slot in a tube 8 secured to the point-member 9, and a helical slot in a member 7 secured to the nipple 6 connecting the pointmember 9 and barrel 10. The barrel and pointmember are preferably of non-metallic material, and the nipple 6 and point 9<a> of metal. In use the propeller and socket move together until the socket engages a shoulder in the point 9<a>. In a modification the head 2a is replaced by a lateral projection at some distance from the end of the rod, and the flange 3<a> is placed at a distance from the end of the socket. The Provisional Specification refers to the application of the device to the pencil holders described in Specification 221,403.
