Abstract
308,752. Deutsche Werft Akt.-Ges. March 29, 1928, [Convention date]. Oils, purifying.-Minute drops of water are separated from oil which rises against a guiding wall inclined to the direction of flow the wall being of material suitable for the adhesion of the small drops or having its surface treated to promote coalescence of the small drops into larger drops. The wall may be made of rolled steel, which has been annealed or its surface may be roughened. The turbulent currents of oil entering a chamber a through a pipe b are destroyed by a plate c and the oil rises so as to impinge on an inclined wall d. Small drops of water adhering to the wall d unite into larger drops, which pass down the wall, and collect in the space e for discharge through a cock f. Deflecting plates c<1>, c<2>, parallel to the plate c, which may be curved or laterally inclined, assist in the separation of mechanical impurities. The Figure shows apparatus in which the oil is passed successively through similarly fitted chambers a<1> ... a<3> separated by guides g. Heating means may be provided in the individual chambers.
